New Art Gallery in Ås, Norway
A home for the work of painter and sculptor Odd Tandberg, the proposed Kulturhaus forms a new civic institution in the heart of the small Norwegian town of Ås.
Continuing the analogy of a house explored elsewhere in our proposals for Ås, the museum is conceived of as a plan of rooms. The visitor route ascends through a series of interlocking double and triple height sculpture galleries, each orientated to a different building facade, terminating with a roof level terrace. Small timber lined painting galleries with an intimate, almost domestic, scale are accessed directly from the sculpture galleries.
The proposal forms part of our Europan 12 submission for the redevelopment of the town centre of Ås, Norway.
